MP3 Album Deal: Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself

Posted: 24 Jun 2011 05:44 AM PDT

Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself

The MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is the Billy Idol compilation Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself for only $3.99.

Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself contains 19 songs and includes all of Billy Idol's biggest hits, as well as two new tunes (well, new to 2008 when this was originally released). The album is also available on CD for $9.59 and as a deluxe CD/DVD for $16.76.

Math time: Typically, MP3 songs sell for $.99 each, which means in order for the $3.99 sale to be worth it for the buyer, there has to be at least four songs on the album worth having. Since this is a greatest hits compilation, there's much more than four goodies on here, but here's the stuff you know and love: "Dancing With Myself," "White Wedding," "Rebel Yell," "Eyes Without A Face." Geek Discussion: As Use Of The Word "Geek" Skyrockets, Best Buy Is Watching Closely

Posted: 23 Jun 2011 04:11 PM PDT

It's no secret that use of the word "geek" has evolved from being somewhat derogatory into something of a medal of honor without and specific meaning. Many think of it as someone who's very much into science fiction and fantasy genre movies, TV shows, and games. But we here at Geeks of Doom like to think being a geek now means that an individual is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about something. You can be the traditional geek, a tech geek, a heavy metal geek, a food geek, and the list goes on and on and on. It's surely come a long way since its time as a high school clique consisting of computer nerds, this much is for sure.

But no matter what your own definition of the word might be, as "geek" continues to evolve and gain popularity in everyday usage, it was only a matter of time before it also attracted some not-so-pleasant attention in the process.

'Tudors' Queen Natalie Dormer Joins 'Game Of Thrones' Season 2 Cast

Posted: 23 Jun 2011 02:32 PM PDT

With production on season 2 to begin rather quickly (thankfully for we the impatient viewers already itching for more), HBO's Game of Thrones has begun adding new faces to the characters we'll be introduced to in their sophomore effort.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Natalie Dormer has joined the season 2 cast, and will be playing the role of Margaery Tyrell. Dormer is of course best known for her work as Anne Boleyn and the eventual queen of England on the hit Showtime original series, The Tudors.

Apart from The Tudors Dormer hasn't done much that U.S. audiences will recognize, but the actress can be seen as Private Lorraine in the upcoming Marvel superhero blockbuster, Captain America: The First Avenger.

Fans of the books will surely be able to instantly place Dormer's face to the Margaery character, who's betrothed to King Robert's brother, Renly Barantheon, while most of those who are intent on seeing the show before reading the books will have to wait and see how Miss Tyrell plays into this vicious game of thrones. Geek Peek: First Images Of Martin Freeman As Bilbo & Ian McKellen As Gandalf In 'The Hobbit'!

Posted: 23 Jun 2011 01:18 PM PDT

The first three images from The Hobbit have been released online, two of which look to be actual stills from the movie while the other includes director Peter Jackson, you know...directing stuff!

The most exciting of the three is obviously our first official look at star Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins with a few friends in the background. The second image is of Ian McKellen in his return to the role of Gandalf the Grey, and the third is of Jackson talking to Freeman on the set.

You can see the first official images from The Hobbit via Entertainment Weekly by clicking on over to the other side now, and the first of the two-part film will be arriving during the holidays, 2012. [...]

There's a lot of great shows on TV right now, but when it comes to Futurama, you can't help but feel particularly nervous about its well–being at all times.

After finally finding its way back from the dead one year ago tomorrow on our savior network, Comedy Central, soaring to 10 million fans on Facebook (now over 14 million), and even the recent news that an additional 26 new episodes had been ordered, we're still going to remind you to tune in and make sure that as many of those 14 million fans are watching as possible.

Click on over for more and to see video previews for tonight's brand new episodes!

So here's the reminder: tonight at 10pm EST, Futurama returns to Comedy Central with not one, but two brand new episodes. These are the first of 13 new episodes that will run this season (the second half of the original 26-episode order; the new 26-episode order mentioned above will act as two more seasons taking us all the way into 2013). Book Review: Fun & Games

Fun and Games by Duane Swierczynski

Fun & Games
By Duane Swierczynski
Hardcover | Kindle
Mulholland Books
Release date: June 20, 2011

In Fun & Games, a former cop named Charlie Hardie, has taken a new job as a professional house sitter. His latest job in Los Angeles goes completely wrong when a movie actress finds refuge in the house that Hardie is protecting. The actress, Lane Madden, claims that a group of hit men are determined to kill her and Hardie finds himself thrown into the mix to protect her from them.

Fun & Games, the first book of the Charlie Hardie trilogy, was the one book that I was really looking forward to reading. I'm a fan of crime and thriller genres so this was a fantastic book to read. The book read like an action movie on steroids. Every chapter was a cliffhanger and I thought that there was no way Hardie could make it out of these situations alive. Boy was I wrong. Author Duane Swierczynski writes this novel the way I wish most action movies would come across: fast-paced, surprises left and right, and an ending that makes you excited for a sequel. The novel felt like a mash up of Home Alone meets Die Hard [...]

E3 2011: An Indie To Watch: Q.U.B.E

E3 2011: QUBE Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion

Squeezing in a tiny corner in the vast expanse of the LA Convention Center's South Hall, obscured by titans such as EA and Microsoft, was an area reserved for independent games, called IndieCade. These plucky Davids are the antitheses to the Goliaths backed by multinational corporations such as Sony and Nintendo. I always make time during E3 to check out their games. I feel, as I do with motion picture studios, that where the majors often get stuck in a rut, making derivative sequels and regurgitating stale ideas, the independents are often where you find the most cutting-edge creativity, bold concepts unsquelched by corporate groupthink.

Every year, one or two of these games stand out amongst them as potentially groundbreaking. Last year it was Miegakure and Hazard: The Journey of Life, two games I feel are still ahead of their time. This year, the game that really caught my eye was called Q.U.B. E.: Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion [...]
